TAMPA University of South Florida freshman outfielder Ryan Lockwood was named Collegiate Baseball newspaper's Freshman Player of the Year on Wednesday, and Lockwood also was one of three former Jesuit High standouts named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team.
Lockwood, an outfielder, was a first team All-Big East selection after hitting .415 with 15 doubles, 37 RBIs and stealing 12 bases. He also had a 30-game hitting streak going before an injury cut short his season.
Lockwood was joined on the All-American team by former Tigers standouts Stephen Hunt and Sam Dyson. Hunt, also a freshman at USF, made the team as a designated hitter after batting .353 with three homers, seven doubles and 33 RBIs. Dyson, a freshman right-handed pitcher at South Carolina, made the team after going 5-0 with a 4.33 ERA with 26 strikeouts for the Gamecocks.
