GAINESVILLE - Rock legend Bo Diddley is expected to receive an honorary degree from the University of Florida.
When the rock 'n' roll founding father died early this week from heart failure, the process of honoring him was already in the works.
The Faculty Senate has approved awarding the degree for the Gainesville-area resident and it was endorsed by the College of Fine Arts.
University of Florida spokeswoman Janine Sikes said the trustees will decide next Friday.
Diddley, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, was known for his square guitar, dark glasses, black hat and distinctive music.
