TAMPA - The Polk County School Board has received a federal grant of nearly $197,000 for school-based random-drug-testing programs, officials said.

The Office of National Drug Control Policy and the U.S. Department of Education on Wednesday announced the distribution of $5.8 million in grants for the popular programs.

The Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of such tests in 1995 and 2002, according to these federal agencies.

The Polk County School Board was one of three educational entities in Florida to receive the money, netting $196,571.

The Manatee County School District received $103,050, and NMS Management Services Inc. of Palm Springs received $57,772, according to a news release.
