MIAMI - Police were questioning two men and searching for at least two others Friday after an undercover narcotics officer was shot while observing drug sales in one of the city's rougher neighborhoods.
The officer, whose name was not made public, was released from the hospital Friday. He was treated for gunshot wounds to an arm and a finger, Police Chief John Timoney said.
The officer and other members of the department's Crime Suppression Unit were doing surveillance in Miami's Wynnewood neighborhood when they noticed a suspicious black vehicle, Timoney said.
Police and witnesses said someone in the black vehicle leaned out a passenger-side window and fired multiple times at the officer's unmarked patrol car.
The officer was conscious and calm, although bleeding profusely from the arm, as other officers rushed to help him, Soler said.
At least one gun was recovered from the scene, Timoney said.
It's the fourth police shooting in Miami-Dade County this year.
