'If God's Stethoscope Could Speak'

Published: June 7, 2008

EDITOR'S NOTE: Jessica Castillo, 12, just finished the sixth grade at Cambridge Christian School in Tampa. She was chosen writer of the year by teacher Sharee Romaine, who wrote, "I wasn't planning to choose a writer of the year until this student's 'Heart of Christ' paper was turned in to me."

Living as a stethoscope might be boring - having to listen to the gentle thump, thump of your heartbeat all day. If God had a stethoscope, however, it would probably hear much more than a heart pumping. It might hear love, mercy, gentleness, patience, prayers, and all the complicated feelings happening in God's chest.

More than anything else, it would listen to the Lord's intense love for everything. He loves his creation, which includes you and me. He loves every tree and flower and animal on the world he created. God would love his son, his word and his kingdom. The extraordinary amount of love in his heart and mind is too much for a human mind to comprehend.

If you had created an entire kingdom, you would want to risk your life to save it. This is what God's heart is talking about after love. He is sad because sin roams the Earth, looking for a victim. How would you react if a plague spread across your world? Yet, he is also full of mercy, giving humans what they don't deserve. God loves every soul on this Earth, including yours.

Every time a prayer is sent to our Lord, he hears it and answers it. Because many people can pray at a time, God's stethoscope would hear lots of voices at a time. God, however, can find the time to answer every one, whether the answer is yes, no, or later. He cares about each and every person who is trying to speak to him. He wants to speak to you, too.

God loves everyone and everything he has created. He also wants to share this love by telling you. His stethoscope can't talk to you, but the Bible can. Teachers, pastors, parents and friends can talk to you. All you need is to listen.
