ST. PETERSBURG - One of the dogs trapped in a fire at Rep. Rick Kriseman's house this week, while the state lawmaker was out of town with his family, has died, the representative confirmed Friday.
Kriseman said Henry, a black Labrador, succumbed to the injuries he suffered in the 12:30 a.m. blaze Wednesday at the Kriseman home at 6044 Third Ave. N. The Kriseman family's other dog, Maggie, who suffered severe smoke inhalation, is fighting for her life at the Animal Hospital of Treasure Island.
The loss of Henry - along with Maggie's condition and the fact the Krisemans' house was destroyed - has been devastating to the couple's two children, ages 5 and 10, he said.
"Tell everybody to pray for Maggie," Kriseman said. "We're hoping they don't lose another one."
He said he was told the fire was caused by an outside outlet that short-circuited.
Kriseman, a Democrat serving his first term in the Legislature, was visiting Colonial Williamsburg with his wife and children at the time the fire broke out.
