BOYNTON BEACH - As if the last day of school wasn't cause enough for celebration, kindergartners at a South Florida school learned Friday that they helped two of their teachers win a free wedding.
Vikki Capparelli and Michael Bonick beat out 900 other couples in the national contest sponsored by Eight O'Clock Coffee.
Their eight-line essay, which repeated the number eight 33 times, began: "We're teachers who drink our 8, for our classes start at 8 and we can't be L8, for our students are so gr8. That's why 8-8-08 is the perfect d8, for teachers to cut a wedding c8ke during summer br8k."
A photograph of their students holding up individual letters reading "Our teachers deserve a GR8 wedding D8" accompanied the entry.
The Poinciana Elementary School teachers' all-expenses-paid wedding - worth $50,000 - is to be held in the Hamptons.
Upon learning the news, the 5-year-olds belted out a spirited version of "You Are My Sunshine" - the same song Bonick serenaded Capparelli with when he got down on one knee and proposed last fall, as the whole school watched on the in-house television station.
