Rallying international aid for Afghanistan, first lady Laura Bush visited the nation Sunday and showcased projects aimed at improving the lives of war-weary Afghans.
In a prelude to her trip to the Afghanistan donors conference this week in Paris, where France hopes to raise $12 billion to $15 billion for reconstruction projects, the first lady toured a construction site at a learning center for youngsters that will double as an orphanage.
Among the U.S.-funded projects she focused on were the $40 million from USAID for Kabul's National Literacy Center and $40 million to aid the American University of Afghanistan.
