Talk about your ultimate father-son outing.
Kevin Tway, a 19-year-old freshman at Oklahoma State, will be among the 156 players seeking our national championship when the 108th U.S. Open tees off Thursday in San Diego.
On Tway's bag for his first U.S. Open?
None other than his father, Bob, the 1986 PGA champion.
Needless to say, Kevin Tway will be the only player in the field with a major champion on the bag.
Dad also was his son's caddie during last week's 36-hole U.S. Open qualifier outside Columbus, Ohio, when Kevin earned his spot by three shots in a field loaded with PGA Tour players.
Kevin Tway is among the nine amateurs who earned a spot in the field.
Bob Tway has played in 18 U.S. Opens during his career, his best finish coming in 1998, when he took third.
As a youngster, Kevin Tway caddied for his father a few times on the PGA Tour, including at Torrey Pines during the Buick Open, which is part of the season-opening West Coast Swing.
