Showers and storms are spread across the region along the east coast seabreeze late this afternoon, bringing hail and strong winds.

More storms are expected across the area this evening as the two breezes collide. Any storms that form may contain very gusty wind and large hail.

The National Weather Service in Ruskin issued severe thunderstorm warnings in Pinellas and western Pasco counties around 5 p.m.

Doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing penny size hail and winds up to 60 miles per hour from 12 miles east southeast of Aripeka to 11 miles east of New Port Richey, the weather service said. Severe thunderstorms also were detected along a line extending from 3 miles northeast of Clearwater to 2 miles northwest of St. Petersburg.

At 5:27 p.m., a trained storm spotter reported nickel-sized hail in St. Petersburg at Third St. and 13th Ave.

Among the other storm reports:
- Hail, reported by a trained spotter at First Ave. S. and Fourth St., in St. Petersburg
- Hail slightly larger than a pea, reported by a spotter 5 miles east of Pinellas Park
- Penny- to nickel-sized hail, reported 2 miles north-northwest of Port Charlotte
- Hail, reported 5 miles south-southwest of Lutz by a National Weather Service employee

The reports were received between 4:45 and 5:25 p.m., the weather service said.

Around 4:25 p.m., numerous funnel clouds were reported in the Cape Coral area of Lee County. Hail was also reported by the public. The Coast Guard sighted a water spout southweest of Fort Myers around 3:30 p.m., and a 60 mph wind gust was reported at the Orlando airport around 2:45 p.m.

The weather service also issued a special marine warning for coastal waters from Englewood to Tarpon Springs.

A small stream flood advisory was issued for western Hillsborough including Temple Terrace, Tampa and Carrollwood effective until 6 p.m.
