TAMPA - While Robert L. Davis Jr. reclined and slept in his 2007 Suzuki on Monday morning in the center lane of Causeway Boulevard, his vehicle remained in drive and his foot rested on the brake pedal, Hillsborough County deputies say.
A Taurus 9 mm pistol was on his lap.
A deputy ordered the 24-year-old Brandon man out of the Suzuki, which was roughly 250 feet from Brandon Town Center Drive, an arrest report states.
That didn't work.
According to the report:
Six deputies removed Davis from the vehicle about 4 a.m. Monday.
Davis struck the deputies with his fist and feet and spit on them, deputies said.
Davis "was given multiple commands to stop resisting, which he disobeyed violently by kicking and punching deputies."
When Davis was in the rear seat of a patrol car, deputies saw he had bloodshot, glassy eyes and noticed his breath smelled of alcohol.
Breath tests gauged his blood-alcohol level at 0.142 and 0.137, according to the affidavit. Florida law presumes a person to be impaired at 0.08.
Davis, of 2015 Plantation Palm Drive, No. 204, was charged with six counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and one count each of driving under the influence and resisting arrest with violence.
He remained in Orient Road Jail today. His bail was set at $14,500.
