CLEARWATER - A Pinellas County Jail employee was accused today of using more than one doctor to obtain prescriptions for hydrocodone that she was not entitled to, detectives said.
Diane Louis Ferron, 40, was arrested while she was on duty at the jail and charged with doctor shopping and trafficking in a controlled substance, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
The investigation began Jan. 29 after detectives received tips that suspicious activity regarding prescription medication was occurring at the jail.
Ferron, an assistant inmate records supervisor, is a non-sworn member of the sheriff's office. She was hired by the agency in 1990. Ferron has been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues, the sheriff's office said.
Ferron is being held today without bail at Pinellas County Jail.
