Brandon High's Eric Grajales won't be the only wrestler with local ties competing this weekend at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Las Vegas.
Former Countryside High star Jared Frayer and former Pasco High standout Nate Engel also will be among the competitors eyeing a spot on the United States wrestling team for the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing.
Frayer, who won three consecutive state titles at Countryside from 1995-97 and later went on to be a two-time All-American at the University of Oklahoma, will wrestle in the 66 kilogram/145.5-pound freestyle division at the Trials.
It will be Frayer's second career appearance at the Trials. He placed fifth in the 2004 Trials in Indianapolis in the same division. Frayer is the No. 2 seed in the division this year.
Engel, a state runner-up as a senior at Pasco High in 2002 who went on to earn NAIA All-American honors at Missouri Valley College, will compete in the 55 kilogram/121-pound Greco-Roman division, the same division as Grajales.
Like Grajales, this is Engel's first trip to the Trials. Engel is the 11th seed.
Grajales and Engel will be roommates during the Trials.
