INDIAN SHORES - Kenny Wilson is a big believer in karma. That's why he always set out to do good things.
On Monday, he was rewarded for his work.
The Sickles High standout baseball player signed a professional contract with the Toronto Blue Jays during a private graduation celebration attended by about 50 family and friends. As Toronto's second-round pick and the 63rd overall selection in last week's MLB amateur draft, Wilson received a $644,000 signing bonus.
Wilson will report to Dunedin today for a physical. He is scheduled to make his professional debut June 19 in the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays' opener at Clearwater.
"I never thought something like this could be possible," Wilson said. "I always felt I'm just an ordinary kid playing high school baseball, trying to get a scholarship. I never thought something like this could happen to me."
In addition to Wilson, Saint Leo catcher Braulio Pardo (Gaither) and South Florida shortstop Addison Maruszak (St. Petersburg Catholic) also signed Monday; Pardo with the Angels and Maruszak with the Yankees. Middleton's Corey Thomas signed with Baltimore over the weekend.
CABBAGESTALK COMMITS: Armwood rising senior offensive lineman Justin Cabbagestalk has verbally committed to Vanderbilt.
Cabbagestalk committed to the Commodores on Monday after taking an unofficial visit to the campus this weekend.
"The ability to get such a great education and be able to play in the SEC were definitely things that stood out," Cabbagestalk said.
