Boy Left Unattended In Closed Car; Dad Charged With Neglect

TAMPA - Deputies charged a Valrico man with felony child neglect after shoppers at a Brandon Wal-Mart discovered the man's 5-year-old son unattended inside a locked vehicle, an affidavit states.

Carl Anthony Calabro, 40, was released on $2,000 bail today. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested him about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday.

According to an arrest affidavit, Calabro left his 5-year-old son in a locked vehicle with the windows rolled up for about an hour Tuesday while shopping at a Wal-Mart in Brandon. Witnesses called for help after noticing the child crying and "sweating profusely," the affidavit states.

A deputy noted the outside temperature was 91 to 95 degrees, the affidavit states.
