Events

NATIVE PLANT WEEKEND: The Butterfly, Herb & Native Plant Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday June 15 at USF Botanical Gardens.

Dozens of vendors will sell butterfly plants, herbs and related items. Members of the Suncoast Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society will be on hand with growing tips.

The Butterfly House will be open, and Nature's Classroom will have a Florida wildlife display.

Children's activities also are planned.

Free talks on Saturday June 14 include:

10 a.m. - Creating a Backyard Habitat, Laurie Walker, gardens director.

Noon - Native plants, George Kish, former president of the Suncoast Chapter.

Admission is $4 for adults and free for children younger than 12 and gardens members. For information, go to www.cas.usf.edu/garden.

PLANT SALE: The Horticultural Vocational Program of the Falkenburg Road Jail will hold a plant sale from 8 a.m. to noon Friday.

The sale will take place by to the right of the main entrance of the jail, 1201 Orient Road, Tampa.

All plants will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

The program is also in need of basic equipment such as containers, fertilizer, equipment, soil and books. Call Allen M. Boatman at (813) 744-5676 for information.

BIRD FEEDING: Wild Birds Unlimited, 13140 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, offers free backyard bird-feeding classes at 9 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month. For information, Call (813) 961-2772.

Meetings

BROMELIADS: The Bromeliad Guild of Tampa Bay will meet at 7 p.m. Monday june16 at the Tampa Garden Center, 2625 Bayshore Blvd., Tampa. Jim Stewart will give a lecture on "Understanding Neo-Color."

NATIVE PLANTS: The Native Plant Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Hillsborough Extension Office, 5339 County Road 579, Seffner.
