Tampa Bay's season didn't go so well on the ice, but it didn't stop Vinny Lecavalier from collecting some hardware Thursday for his work off the ice.
Lecavalier was named the King Clancy Memorial Trophy winner for his work this season with All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, where he guaranteed a contribution of $3 million to pediatric cancer patients through his foundation. The new Vincent Lecavalier Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorder Center is scheduled to open next year.
Lecavalier was awarded the trophy as part of the NHL awards show in Toronto on Thursday night.
"I want to thank my teammates for recognizing my charitable efforts with the foundation," Lecavalier said during his acceptance speech. "I also want to commend all the players and the people who are in hockey who devote a lot of time and money to many causes."
Earlier this month Lecavalier was named the co-recipient of the NHL Foundation Player Award, along with Vancouver's Trevor Linden.
