Authorities are looking for a group of purse snatchers attacking people in the St. Petersburg-Treasure Island area.
Investigators released surveillance video and photographs of two men today. The video shows them in the parking lot of Middle Grounds Grill, 10925 Gulf Blvd., Treasure Island, about 7:15 p.m. June 2. One of the men grabs a woman's purse, causing her to fall, then the men flee in a gray minivan with a temporary tag. The license plate number may begin with "S-106," investigators said.
Twenty minutes later, another surveillance camera caught one of the men, accompanied by two women, attempting to use the victim's credit cards at an ATM in a Food Maxx store at 1400 18th Ave. S., Treasure Island. All three people left the store and climbed into a gray minivan, investigators said.
At 9:17 p.m. June 3, a man grabbed a purse from a woman in the parking lot of the Elks Lodge at 2675 66th St. N. in St. Petersburg, detectives said. The man then jumped into a gray minivan driven by a second person.
Anyone with information should call the St. Petersburg Police Department at (727) 893-7780 or Detective David Schilt at the Treasure Island Police Department at (727) 547-4595.
