Tampa Police: Man Beat Wife, Tossed Computer Mouse At Son

TAMPA - A man threw a computer mouse at the head of his 3-year-old son after becoming angry with his pregnant wife and the child, according to the Tampa Police Department.

About 1:30 p.m. Thursday, William Avila, 25, of B-5628 Napoleon Court, argued with his wife, according to an arrest affidavit. This is what happened next, according to the document:

When his wife walked into the couple's bedroom to ask him for check stubs he didn't have, Avila became angry. He then told the 3-year-old to shut up, and when he didn't, Avila threw a computer mouse at the back of the boy's head. Avila then slapped his wife in the face several times before knocking her to the floor.

The wife, who is not named in the report, told police she tried to fight back but that he is too big.

Avila was charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman and child abuse, both felonies. He is being held at the Orient Road Jail. No bail had been set.
