A Polk County sheriff deputy's patrol car caught fire this morning after he slammed into the back of a pick-up truck, according to a media release.
Northeast District Deputy Sheriff Victor Diaz was heading north on U.S. 27 near Florida Camp Inn Resort at 3:55 a.m. in his agency issued Ford Crown Victoria when he collided into the truck's rear, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Diaz's patrol car immediately caught fire. Diaz was hurt by the blaze, which was put out by EMS and fire personnel, the sheriff's office said.
The truck driver, Alan Silva, 49, of Winter Haven, was taken to the Heart of Florida Hospital and admitted for his injuries. A passenger, Alan Marion, 61, of Kissimmee, was taken to Celebration Hospital and admitted for his injuries.
Diaz was treated and released at Heart of Florida Hospital for his injuries.
This crash is under investigation.
