TAMPA - Jarvis Giles was rocky topped the moment he set foot on the University of Tennessee campus.
The Gaither High running back verbally committed to Tennessee on Friday, ending a whirlwind of recruiting that included about 20 Division I offers. Giles, who has spent the past week touring Tennessee, had narrowed the list to five during spring workouts. Clemson, Georgia, Nebraska and South Carolina made the cut, but the Vols were always the front-runner.
"I've just never seen anything like this being from Florida," Giles said. "I just feel real comfortable here. Everyone has been so nice to me."
One of the top running backs in Hillsborough County the past two seasons, Giles has produced back-to-back 1,000-plus yard seasons, which generated a lot of collegiate attention. Almost all of the Florida colleges offered scholarships, including the Gators, Florida State and USF.
ZACCARIO TO MEMPHIS: Newsome kicker/punter Vinny Zaccario has accepted a preferred walk-on position at the University of Memphis.
