In Ellenton, Fall Down Elevator Shaft Injures Worker

ELLENTON - A 25-year-old man is in fair but stable condition tonight after he fell 12 feet down an elevator shaft, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.
Joel Cortez-Martinez was working on the second floor of a two-story house under construction at 4517 Seventh St. Court E. when he got too close to the elevator shaft, deputies said.
Fire rescue crews pulled Cortez-Martinez out of the confined space about 7 p.m. It is not clear how he fell into the shaft, deputies said.
Cortez-Martinez was taken by medical helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center.
