Berkeley Prep track coach Cecil Stodghill, who guided the girls squad to the Class 2A-District 9 title and third place in the boys' meet, announced he was stepping down from the position after just one season.
Stodghill, Berkeley's associate director of admissions, said he was leaving the private school to become Director of Graduate Support for Academy Prep Foundation.
"It's going to be hard leaving Berkeley because of all the great people there but I feel this new job is something of a calling for me," Stodghill said. "I think I'd like to return to coaching track eventually but for right now, I need to focus all my attention on what I'm going to be doing next."
Academy Prep is a free, private preparatory school for students in grades 5-8 from low-income families. It has campuses in both St. Petersburg and Ybor City. Graduates earn scholarships to premier private high schools and colleges.
