NORTH LAUDERDALE - NORTH LAUDERDALE - The marine artist Wyland says he'll paint his 100th and final mural in Beijing.
The artist, who goes only by one name, made the announcement Saturday in North Lauderdale, where he was painting his 99th mural. Wyland has been painting seascapes on buildings for almost 30 years. He's known for his lifelike renderings of marinelife like whales and dolphins as well as his conservation efforts.
Wyland painted his first so-called Whaling Wall in 1981 in Laguna Beach, Calif. He has been all over the United States to paint in places including Florida and Hawaii. He's also painted walls in other parts of the world including Canada, Japan and Australia.
In the Tampa Bay area, Wyland painted murals at Sarasota's Mote Marine Lab in 1993 and at the Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park in 2000.
