TAMPA - Anthony Allred, a News Channel 8 photojournalist, was arrested this morning and charged with driving under the influence.
When he was pulled over by police, he was behind the wheel of a vehicle owned by Media General, the parent company of News Channel 8 and The Tampa Tribune, a Tampa police report states.
According to an arrest report:
About 3 a.m., Allred's vehicle was heading south on Jim Walter Boulevard when it went through a flashing red light without stopping. Allred turned into another vehicle's lane on Columbus Drive, causing that driver to apply brakes. Allred's vehicle drifted inside the lane and rode on the lane marker, and Allred was pulled over.
He had bloodshot, glassy eyes and his breath smelled of alcohol. Breath tests showed his blood-alcohol level at 0.105 and 0.107.
In Florida, a person is presumed to be impaired with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08.
Allred, 41, also "had a plastic cup, 3/4 full of an alcoholic beverage, still with ice cubes inside the drink, sitting in the center console on the drivers side," the report states.
His bail was set at $500. He has been released.
Allred, who has worked for News Channel 8 since April 2004, could not immediately be reached for comment.
News Director Don North referred questions to the company's human resources department.
Marsha Taylor-Holland, human resources director for the Florida Communications Group, declined to comment on Allred's arrest.
