Studio Hopes Youths Flip For Camp

ZEPHYRHILLS - This month, a Pasco gymnastics and cheerleading studio will offer comprehensive summer camps for both the casual and the competitive athlete.
East Pasco Gymnastics, 35934 State Road 54 in Zephyrhills, will offer recreational gymnastics day camps today through Friday and June 23 to 27, in sessions that run 9 a.m. to noon to 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Skills emphasized will include tumbling, vaulting, uneven bars and balance beam; students also can take advantage of the onsite trampoline and rock-climbing wall.

"This is fun gymnastics, for kids with beginning through advanced skills," said Lisa Pitts, owner of East Pasco Gymnastics.
Cheerleading camps will be conducted from July 14 to 18 and July 21 to 25, for beginning and advanced cheerleaders. Skills taught in these sessions, which run from 9 a.m. to noon, will include cheers, chants, stunts, dances and tumbling.

"While some kids come into these camps for fun, others come to learn specialized skills required for competition," she said.

Regardless of their skill level or goals, Pitts said she thinks her students will learn valuable skills from the day camps offered at East Pasco Gymnastics.

"We ring a bell in the studio when a student accomplishes a skill, so there's immediate reinforcement," she said. "We build self-respect and team building skills, and the children encourage other children to succeed.

"The skills we teach strengthen the body and flexibility, and give back some of the skills that might not be taught at school."
