TAMPA - For the second consecutive year, University of South Florida quarterback Matt Grothe won Polk County's Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year.
Also nominated for Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year was USF freshman men's basketball guard Dominique Jones.
Grothe will be recognized Tuesday night as part of the Polk County All Sports Awards at the Lakeland Center.
Tickets to the dinner banquet, which also recognize Polk County's top professional, collegiate and amateur athletes and teams, are $35. The event begins at 6:15 p.m. For information, call (863) 534-2500.
This is the third time in the past four years Grothe has been honored by the Polk County All Sports Awards. He won the organization's male amateur athlete as a senior at Lake Gibson High School in 2005 and the male collegiate athlete of the year in 2007 and 2008.
USF football coach Jim Leavitt and offensive coordinator Greg Gregory have indicated they will attend the event, a Polk County All Sports spokesman said.
