LARGO - Sports radio personality Steve Duemig was arrested early Sunday on a drunken driving charge.
Duemig, 53, of Clearwater, was pulled over at 1:39 a.m. near Egret Boulevard and Frigate Court in the Feather Sound area of St. Petersburg, Pinellas sheriff's Sgt. Jim Bordner said. He was driving a white Lexus.
No other information on the arrest was available. He was released from the Pinellas County Jail later Sunday morning.
Duemig has been a broadcaster on Tampa Bay sports radio since at least the early 1990s.
He hosts a weekday afternoon sports-talk show on WDAE, 620 AM, where he is known as "The Big Dog."
Duemig never has shied away from hot-button issues surrounding the players and coaches of local professional sports teams.
Up until 2001, he hosted a postgame show for the Tampa Bay Lightning called "The Fourth Period," but left the gig after a falling out with management.
In July 2003, Duemig, a former PGA club professional, appeared with 10 other contestants on The Golf Channel's reality show "The Big Break." The 10-part show presented a series of skills challenges, but Duemig was eliminated in the long iron competition.
