TAMPA - Residents of the Interbay Peninsula likely will hear more aircraft noise than usual from MacDill Air Force Base through Thursday as the military conducts what it calls "a major training event."
Aircraft including the A-10C Thunderbolt II, AC-130U Spectra, B-52 Stratofortress and HH-60G Pavehawk are flying between MacDill and the military bombing range outside Avon Park, according to an Air Force release.
The Air Force says the training is to prepare crews for "urban close air support operations" related to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"Throughout this period, the local community may see and hear an increase in aircraft flight activity out of MacDill," the release states.
The operations are to take place from 1 to 11 p.m.
Similar late-night training missions last year stirred complaints from some residents.
