Bonnaroo: Of Fried Peanuts, Crunk

Published: June 18, 2008

To the uninitiated, the four-day Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival held on a 700-acre farm southeast of Nashville, Tenn., looks like just another Woodstock wannabe. But the event attracts fans as much for the music as the spectacle.

This year's Bonnaroo ended Sunday night.

One of those in attendance was Emily Seawell, copy editor and interactivity team member at The Tampa Tribune. She and several friends made the trek last week to see such acts as Kanye West, Jack Johnson, Pearl Jam and Death Cab for Cutie perform. Seawell blogged the adventure at TBO.com. I asked her to take note of the food her group discovered on the road. Her posts included:

•"Going to the grocery store for water and Gatorade tonight. My other must-have food item: potato sticks. And lots of ice, starting Thursday."

•Stopped for a snack outside Hotlanta and stumbled upon this local energy drink (pictured). Just popped open my first-ever can of Crunk. Tastes a lot like Juicy Juice."

•Fried peanuts are "local fare in South Pittsburg, Tenn. You eat the shell along with the peanut. Ooh and Sun Drop (soda) from my hometown in N.C.!"
