TAMPA - Police will introduce their newest canines when they perform a drug bust demonstration today.
Bo, a springer spaniel, and Max, a German shepherd, will be showing off their skills starting 11 a.m. at the Tampa Police Air Service building, 4400 W. Tampa Bay Blvd.
Officers received Bo from English Springer Rescue America after discovering the dog's potential for police work, police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said in a statement.
Max belonged to Tampa photographer Luis Santana and his fiancée, Alyson Degnan, Davis said. When Degnan succumbed to cancer, Santana donated Max to fulfill Degnan's wish of Max becoming a police dog.
Tampa police have 20 canine units, Davis said.
Officers train the dogs with real drugs and explosives. Like officers, police K-9s have a badge.
Reporter Ray Reyes contributed to this report.
