Detectives: Riverview Woman Stole $86,000 From 80-Year-Old

TAMPA - A Riverview woman was arrested today, accused by detectives of stealing more than $86,000 from an 80-year-old woman who suffers from dementia, according to an arrest affidavit.

Cherie Renee Richards, 36, of 10414 Crestfield Drive, was charged with multiple counts of fraud and grand theft. She also was charged with exploitation of an elderly person.

Hillsborough County sheriff's detectives said Richards spent $9,058.79 worth of property and removed $77,516.18 from the elderly woman's online bank account. Richards is the overseer of the woman's accounts, the arrest report said. The victim, whose name was not listed on the arrest report, had her credit card charged 25 times since August 2007.

Richards is being held at Orient Road Jail with bail set at $120,500.
