LAND O' LAKES – A man died early this morning, hours after being struck by a private ambulance on State Road 52 about 10 p.m. Thursday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The 47-year-old man, whose name has not been released pending notification of family, was walking west on the shoulder of S.R. 52 at Ehren Cutoff, just west of San Antonio, when the ambulance's mirror struck him, Sgt. Steve Gaskins said.
The ambulance crew provided emergency care, and the man was taken by helicopter to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, where he died shortly after 4 a.m.
The man did not have any identification, troopers said, but the medical examiner's office was able to make a positive identification later this afternoon.
Arthur Gasparrini, 66, of Hudson, was driving the ambulance, troopers said. No charges have been filed.
