GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Evidence in the case of a confessed killer of five college students in Gainesville in 1990 will be destroyed.
Bags of evidence collected in the Danny Rolling case will be burned in the next two weeks. Officials say this will ensure that the items don't get into the hands of collectors.
An Alachua County official who was one of the main investigators in the case says maybe this will be another chapter closed for the families of the victims.
Rolling was executed in 2006. He terrorized Gainesville in late August and early September 1990, killing four women and a man in their off-campus apartments. One victim was decapitated and others were mutilated, posed and sexually assaulted.
Among the items to be burned are his guitar and camping equipment.
