TAMPA - The man wanted in connection to Tuesday's slaying of Iris Hernandez-Morales was arrested today and charged with first-degree murder, police said.
Jose Torres-Rodriguez, 55, is expected to be booked at Orient Road Jail tonight.
News reports that described the truck Torres-Rodriguez was last seen driving allowed tipsters to relay information to police regarding his whereabouts, detectives said.
Investigators say Torres-Rodriguez entered the Walnut Street home of his ex-girlfriend Hernandez-Morales and strangled her.
Hernandez-Morales failed to show up Tuesday to testify in a court case against Torres-Rodriguez. Concerned, her family called police, and an officer found Hernandez-Morales' body inside her house.
Torres-Rodriguez was arrested July 8 on a domestic battery charge of slapping and choking Hernandez-Morales, and a domestic violence injunction was put in place that month.
At a hearing June 9, Hernandez-Morales testified that at times she was in fear for her life because of Torres-Rodriguez and that she let him back into her life.
