A brother and sister are recovering from an attack Thursday night at Pier 60 in Clearwater.
Alexander and Lily Shangorodsky, 19 and 18, respectively, were in the parking lot of the pier, 360 Mandalay Ave., about 9:30 p.m. when seven teenagers and young men grabbed Lily Shangorodsky's handbag and started beating the pair, said Clearwater public safety spokeswoman Elizabeth Daly-Watts.
When the pair tried to telephone for help, the attackers destroyed the cell phone, Daly-Watts said.
An off-duty Clearwater police officer heard about the fight and called for help. All the attackers were arrested, Daly-Watts said.
Raul Santos-Vargas, 20, of Valrico, is charged with strong-arm robbery, tampering with a victim, felony criminal mischief and battery.
Frank Borja, 19, of Brandon, is charged with robbery, tampering with a witness, carrying a concealed weapon and battery.
Isaiah Cruz, 19, of Tampa, Kyle Wolfman, 19, of Brandon, and three unidentified juveniles all are charged with battery.
The victims identified all of them as attackers, Daly-Watts said.
