TAMPA - The man wanted in connection with Tuesday's slaying of Iris Hernandez-Morales was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder, police said.
Jose Torres-Rodriguez, 55, was to be booked Thursday evening at Orient Road Jail.
After news reports that described Torres-Rodriguez's truck, police received tips about his whereabouts, detectives said. When police found him, he went with them voluntarily, police said.
Investigators said Torres-Rodriguez entered the Walnut Street home of his ex-girlfriend Hernandez-Morales and strangled her.
Hernandez-Morales failed to show up Tuesday to testify against Torres-Rodriguez. Concerned, her family called police, and an officer found Hernandez-Morales' body inside her house.
Torres-Rodriguez was arrested July 8 on a domestic battery charge of slapping and choking Hernandez-Morales, and a domestic violence injunction was put in place that month. He was arrested May 9 for violating the injunction.
At a hearing June 9, Hernandez-Morales testified that she feared for her life.
