Regarding "County Soccer Park Idea In Play" (Metro, June 18):
With Hillsborough County so strapped for cash that they are laying off employees and making other budget cuts, Commissioner Jim Corman is again pushing for a sporting complex near Plant City. Furthermore, County parks director Mark Thornton said the 24-field complex would attract major soccer tournaments from across the nation.
With the high price of gasoline and the increasing prices of air travel, does Thornton really believe people from the Northeast, West Coast and other parts of the nation will really come to Plant City for a soccer tournament? Where does he get his information - or is this off the top of his head in support of Norman?
These people should be investigated, and I am surprised that the Tribune did not question Thornton on the veracity of his claims.
