DADE CITY - The state fire marshal's office is investigating a fire that killed one person early Thursday.
The fire broke out just before 6 a.m. at 13735 19th St., and Pasco County firefighters found a body in a back bedroom, said Dade City Police Department Capt. David Duff.
When firefighters and police arrived, the house was ablaze. Once the fire was contained, according to police, firefighters found the badly burned body.
Police later identified the victim as homeowner Michael Lee Pearson, 39.
According to a preliminary investigation, the fire began in the same room as Pearson was found. The cause is thought to be electrical, according to Duff.
Sam Venzeio of the fire marshal's office said late Thursday afternoon that the fire didn't seem suspicious.
"We're going to wait for the cause and manner of death from the medical examiner's office," he said.
An autopsy is scheduled for today.
