TAMPA - A St. Petersburg fitness company is moving to Tampa.
Lifestyle Family Fitness will build its headquarters at 301 S. Dale Mabry Highway, between Platt and Azeele streets, developer Brian Taub said.
Taub said the site, which was the longtime home of Malio's Steak House, will be developed with a 43,500-square-foot fitness center and a 25,000-square-foot headquarters. He said there will be a small juice bar.
The development also will have a three-story parking garage with about 375 spaces.
"It's quite a coup for us," said Taub, who declined to give a project cost.
Lifestyle officials did not return calls for comment.
Lifestyle Family Fitness' current headquarters is at 140 Fountain Parkway in St. Petersburg. Australian Geoffrey Dyer founded the company in 1982, opening the first club in Lakeland, according to the company's Web site.
The company reported $93.1 million in revenue in 2007, with 56 locations in Florida, North Carolina, Ohio and Indiana. Locally, it has fitness centers in Tampa Palms, Citrus Park and Carrollwood, and in Hyde Park Village, about two miles from the proposed headquarters.
Lifestyle has more than 2,000 employees and 200,000 members.
Malio's, which relocated to downtown Tampa, still owns the 2-acre site. It was supposed to become offices for Masonite until the building-products company backed out of the project.
