Gulfport Bicyclist Dies After Being Hit By Car

TAMPA - A 19-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a motorist last night while riding across 66th Street, south of 30th Avenue North in St. Petersburg, police said.

Matthew Manner, of Gulfport, died at St. Petersburg General Hospital despite receiving CPR at the scene from bystanders, according to an incident report.

Police identified the driver as Alan Danks Jr., 25, of St. Petersburg. He was driving south on 66th Street in a 1995 Nissan about 8:20 p.m. when Manner entered the center lane and collided with the car, landing on its hood and windshield, the report said.

Police said an investigation is continuing and no charges have been filed.
