PORT RICHEY - The victim of a hit-and-run motorist who ran a stop sign and caused a crash on U.S. 19 on Wednesday afternoon has died of his injuries.
Troopers are conducting a homicide investigation and have surveillance camera footage of a silver Pontiac Grand Am four-door sedan with heavy damage to the driver's door leaving the scene.
A witness told Florida Highway Patrol troopers that the driver appeared to be a white woman, Sgt. Steve Gaskins reported after the crash.
This afternoon, Gaskins reported that motorcyclist Nicholas Burns Jr., 22, of Beverly Hills, died Thursday.
Burns, who wasn't wearing a helmet, was riding his 2007 motorcycle north on U.S. 19 at 2:49 p.m. Wednesday when a driver heading west on Bougainvillea Drive ignored a stop sign and drove into Burns' path.
The bike smashed into the Grand Am's door and came to rest on a grassy median. The car's driver did not stop and instead headed south on U.S. 19, Gaskins reported.
Anyone with information about the Grand Am is asked to call Traffic Homicide Sgt. Heather Glenny at 1-800-235-6019.
