RIVERVIEW - Pilots with decades of experience dazzled onlookers with displays of aerial acrobatics Saturday.
The pilots, though, operated their planes while standing on the ground.
The Riverview-based Triple Creek Remote Control Flying club was hosting its first 3D Fly-in at the organization's headquarters, 12705 Balm Boyette Road.
More than 500 people were expected to attend the weekend event, including fliers from all over Florida and from out of state.
"I think it's fair to say we're going to have some of the best fliers in the country for this event," said Jeff Wortner, club president.
The event continues today from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and features freestyle flying, contests and exhibitions.
Triple Creek and the Florida Freestyle Aerobatics Association organized the event. Proceeds from raffles and pilots' registration fees will benefit the flying club, as well as Boy Scout Troop 661, based in Ruskin and Apollo Beach.
Admission is free. An optional $1 parking fee also benefits the Boy Scouts. For information, call (813) 641-0155.
