Cink Increases Lead At Travelers

CROMWELL, Conn. - Stewart Cink birdied the final two holes Saturday to take a two-stroke lead into the final round of the Travelers Championship.

Cink, who led by one after Friday's action, followed his opening rounds of 66 and 64 with a 5-under 65 to reach 15-under 195 on the TPC River Highlands, the best 54-hole score of his career.
Heath Slocum (64) was second. Defending champion Hunter Mahan (67), Vijay Singh (64), Kenny Perry (65), Tommy Armour III (65) and Kevin Streelman (62) were 12 under.

On a day when 24 golfers shot 66 or better, 17 players ended up within five shots of the lead going into today's final round. The average score of 68.2 was the best ever for a third round on the course.

Cink said he expects to have to be at 20 under today to have a chance to win.

He is looking for his first victory this year after six top-10 finishes.

LPGA: At Rochester, N.Y., Norwegian star Suzann Pettersen shot a 5-under 67 to open a three-stroke lead against Morgan Pressel and South Koreans Eun-Hee Ji and Inbee Park after the third round of the Wegmans LPGA.

Pettersen shot a bogey-free round to finish the day at 14-under 202.

Ji holed out from 170 yards to open with an eagle and ran up six more birdies for a 64 and a second-place tie at 11 under.

CHAMPIONS: At Concord, Mass., Loren Roberts leads by one stroke after the second round of the Bank America Championship.

He birdied the 18th hole Saturday for a 6-under-par 66. He is a shot ahead of Mark McNulty, Jeff Sluman and first-round leader Tom Kite.

PGA EUROPEAN: At Munich, Germany, Martin Kaymer closed in on a Ryder Cup berth when he shot a 67 for a six-stroke lead heading into the final day of the BMW International Open.

BRITISH AMATEUR: At Turnberry, Scotland, Dutchman Reinier Saxton won the British Amateur Championship, beating 17-year-old Englishman Tommy Fleetwood 3 and 2.

WOMEN'S PUBLINX: At Erin, Wis., UCLA star Tiffany Joh won the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links for the second time in three years, rallying to win four of the last six holes for a 2 and 1 victory against Southern California recruit Jennifer Song.

FLORIDA AMATEUR: Garrett Morrison of Orlando holds a one-stroke lead heading into the final round in the 91st Florida State Amateur Championship at Jupiter Hills Club. Morrison has a 1-over 213 after shooting even-par 72.

David Johnson shot the day's low round at 3-under par 67 to move into a tie for second place with Judson Eustaquio.
