CLEARWATER - A member of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is retiring Tuesday after 70 years of service.
Well, in dog years.
A party will be held at 2:30 p.m. for Lion, an 11-year-old yellow Labrador that has served as a narcotics dog for the sheriff's office since 1998.
During his 10 years of service, Lion assisted detectives in the seizure of almost three tons of narcotics which include marijuana, cocaine, crystal meth, and heroine and more than $300,000 in currency.
Lion's replacement, a 2-year-old black Labrador named Watson, will also be introduced Tuesday during the event at the child protection investigation division of the sheriff's office, 6451 126th Ave., Largo.
In his retirement, Lion will continue to live with his handler, Detective Patrick Shea, the sheriff's office said.
