Congress must act now to implement a comprehensive energy policy, which would include drilling in both ANWR and the OCS, building more nuclear power plants, utilizing our vast coal supplies to produce clean fuel, finding new energy sources such as biofuels, windmills and solar power and conservation.
No single concept will work, and drilling must be part of any comprehensive plan. If we announced such a plan and declared that we would be totally energy independent in, say, 10 years, and just watch oil and gasoline prices plunge.
But our Congress is not interested in working on such a policy. Instead they'd rather spend their time investigating such things as horse racing safety and drugs in baseball. If Congress only went home once or twice a month instead of weekly, they would not only be able to work more than their regular three and a half days a week, they would also likely save a lot of fuel due to less travel.
