WESLEY CHAPEL - There was a money booth where lucky contestants could grab fluttering bills out of the air at the B2B Expo Saturday, and then there were the wings.
Wiregrass Ranch High School, which hosted the event, had a trio of incoming seniors sample the fare at the Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce event.
April Candelaria and Monica Abdelmalak swore by the honey barbecue wings from Winners Sports Grill. But friend Kelli Moss said she preferred the Thai orange wings.
Buffalo's Southwest Cafe took top honors in the People's Choice category, judged by how many tickets the restaurant's booth took in, according to chamber member Laura Miller.
Beef O'Brady's won the Judge's Award for best wings of 2008, Miller said.
On hand to provide an antidote to the hot wings was chamber member Tiffany Sentner.
But Saturday's cool and steady rain kept customers away from her Sunshine Snow Balls trailer, which offered homemade flavorings poured over New Orleans-style shredded ice.
A native of east Texas, Sentner said she and her childhood friends survived scorching summers with the help of the icy treats.
"As a kid, I used to stand in line for half an hour to get one," she said as the rain trickled down the sides of her metallic mobile stand.
But it was the wings that spoke to John Baker and Wayne Becker, who had just joined the chamber and showed up Saturday to glad-hand fellow members on behalf of their company, Lift Merchant Services of Land O' Lakes.
After a quick conference, they decided on a wing strategy.
"We'll each get two of each type," Becker said.
