2 More Charged In Slayings Attributed To White Supremacy

TAMPA – Two more men were indicted today on charges they beat two homeless men to death 10 years ago in the name of white supremacy.

James Robertson, 28, and Corey Hulse, 34, were charged in a federal indictment with two counts of murder in furtherance of a racketeering enterprise.

Robertson, who is serving a federal prison term for murder, pleaded not guilty this morning before U.S. Magistrate Thomas Wilson. Hulse remains a fugitive, said Steve Cole, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office.

Two other men have pleaded guilty in the 1998 slayings. Charles Marovskis, 29, formerly of Tampa, pleaded guilty in May, and Kenneth Hoover, 35, pleaded guilty in March 2007 to the same charges brought today against Robertson and Hulse. The defendants face up to life in prison.

Robertson this morning told Wilson he can't afford to hire a lawyer. "I've been in prison," he said. Asked if he had read the indictment, he said, "I'm very familiar with what's being said here, sir."

Federal officials say all four men were members of Tampa Blood and Honour, a white supremacy group that planned to participate in a race war and kill people deemed inferior.

On Sept. 12, 1998, an unidentified homeless man was attacked by skinheads under an Interstate 275 overpass at Bird Street, but he escaped, court records state.

The next day, Alfred Williams and Richard Arseneau were killed.

The body of Williams, 62, was found under a Selmon Crosstown Expressway overpass.

He was beaten and stabbed in the eye with a tire iron.

Arseneau, 44, was found in a wooded area near Interstate 275 and Fletcher Avenue. He was killed with a small ax, court documents state.

Hoover, Marovskis and other members of the group participated in the two killings, according to a written statement from the U.S. attorney's office.
