SARASOTA - Authorities are looking for a woman who they say called 911 and told dispatchers that she had been blindfolded and was being held inside a car against her will, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said.
The woman told dispatchers about 5 p.m. that she thought she was near a park by a highway and that she had seen children playing baseball, the sheriff's office said. She told authorities she thought she was inside a gray Cadillac and was being held by a man named "Dave Stan."
Then the call ended, the sheriff's office said.
Patrol deputies checked parks near Interstate 75, and a sheriff's helicopter assisted in the search.
The vehicle was not found.
The same woman first called 911 dispatchers at 4:50 a.m., the sheriff's office said. During the call, the woman told dispatchers that she was near a Popeye's restaurant and Eighth Street in Sarasota. She added that she was being threatened by two men.
Deputies searched the area but did not find anything suspicious, the sheriff's office said. Detectives also determined that the second call at 5 p.m. was from an old cell phone with no active account.
The sheriff's office said it does not have enough evidence to determine whether the phone calls are a hoax and continues its investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Bureau at (941) 861-4900.
