Regarding "Lap Of Luxury" (front page, June 23):
As a pet owner and animal lover, I was not surprised to read that people continue to pamper their pets while cutting back on themselves. My wife and I try to provide the very best food and veterinary care for our dog and four cats - all rescues. However, I take exception with some of the excesses.
With the economy tanking, more and more pets are ending up in shelters or abandoned. Please, before you buy that jeweled collar or polo shirt, think of them and send that money to the Humane Society, ASPCA or any of the local rescue groups - they need your help. And if you're considering a pet, visit them, not a breeder. Please don't buy while shelter pets die.
